Can I take legal action against UOrgs for a review about my organization?
UOrgs is an interactive platform that hosts content submitted by our users. Under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (47 U.S.C. § 230), interactive computer services like UOrgs are generally not legally responsible for content provided by their users, including the ratings and reviews posted on our site.
Anyone who pursues legal action against UOrgs over user-submitted reviews risks penalties, including financial sanctions and reimbursement of our legal fees, for a claim that ignores these well-established protections. If you believe specific content violates our rules, the fastest way to have it addressed is to report it.
How did my organization get listed without our permission?
UOrgs is a campus organization directory built from publicly available campus information and student contributions. Organizations are groups active on public campuses, and relevant law allows us to host listings and reviews about them without requiring permission.
Organizations generally are not removed simply because they have received negative reviews or because an organization objects to being listed. Removing organizations on request would make the platform unreliable for the students it is meant to serve. Officers can claim their organization to manage its page.
Will you remove a review I believe is false or unfair?
Reviewers are responsible for ensuring their reviews reflect their genuine experiences. When someone tells us a review is untrue, we generally cannot determine who is correct, and we are not positioned to judge the accuracy of subjective opinions and experiences about an organization. Absent a violation of our rules, we allow reviewers to stand by their reviews.
However, we do remove content that violates our rules, including:
- Content that names, identifies, or targets a specific individual
- Harassment, threats, or attacks on people
- Slurs or hate speech
- Personal or private information (doxxing)
- Spam, fake reviews, or links
Honest criticism of an organization itself — even harsh, negative criticism — is allowed and will generally remain. If you believe a review crosses one of the lines above, report it and we will review it. Content decisions are at our discretion.
